Past, Present and Future

The Past:

In the recent past, I had some time to think about my life in general, what I want to do, the things I don't like, etc. It was a period of reflection in my life.

The Present:

Currently, (as we only have one month of classes left) I'm working hard to pass my subjects at college, so I've been a little stressed.

The Future:

I'm not really sure about the future, I do know that I'll be working this summer, but the rest is still a mystery.

Post Ten

As this is the last blog of the semester, the topic this time is "English Language Challenges".

My experience with the english class this semester is pretty good, I think It was funnier than last semester's so I've liked It. I'm not sure how much my english has improve because we only had like 3 hours a week in which we were speaking in english almost the hole class. But now I know more words than before, so at least my vocabulary has increase.

I think writing blogs is really useful to practice your english, because many times happens to me that I want to say something, but I don't remember the correct word, I mean, I know plenty of words, but I don't use them really often so I just forget about them. Also, I usually forget how to write correctly the words or I get insecure about it even when I write them rightly xD So I believe writing is a good way to practice and improve your vocabulary skills even though is kind of boring.

I love watching movies, tv series and even youtube videos, so I usually watch them in english and If the vocabulary is too complicated or too technical I turn on the english subs. I also read in english sometimes, and I always listen to (and I sing too) the music I have in my cellphone which is 70% in english. So, listening and reading in english is almost a daily part of my life, but I don't really practice my speaking, I do have a few friends who speak a little of english, but we just say bad words or take english as a joke. I think should speak more in english so I guess I can try talking to myself in english sometimes.

Post nine

Hi!

Today´s blog is about some changes I would make to my study programme to improve it.

The first thing that comes to my mind is that nobody teaches you how to use the computer programs (like Photoshop, AutoCad, Illustrator, etc) you need to make good architectural plans and other kinds of digital representation. I've seen many of my second year friends having troubles with that, trying to learn by themselves and wasting a lot of time on it, because the teachers don't usually teach about digital softwares, but they still expect you to know everything about it. Just a few teachers make a short class about it and they teach only the basics. I think digital representation is a really important thing to learn in Architecture, so there should be an obligatory subject dedicated to that topic in our study programme.

I like the carrer, but I really hate the fact that the academic load is too heavy so you're always stressed, you don't have enough time and It's difficult to have social life or time to spend it with your family, friends, etc. At least in my case, I feel like I can't take all of the courses I should In the semester, because I'm not sure If I'm going to be able to pass them all, so I prefer to take my time and to really learn the subjects instead of being just focus on pass all of them and not truly learning. I think It would be good to have less subjects per semester, but I don't think that's possible so I will just continue with my "method".

I also think that the infrastructure of the faculty could be better, like having one clasroom for an specific workshop, air conditioner and heating in all the classrooms, more green zones and many other things like that, but I guess that's all for this blog.

My favorite artist

Hi!

Today's blog is about my favorite artist, well, in this case it's a band. I think, right now, my favorite band is Pearl Jam, I've liked it since highschool, I guess, I always listen to their music and I never get tired of it, which is weird because I usually get tired of certain bands and singers really quickly.

For the ones who don't know much about the group; Pearl Jam is a grunge-alternative rock band formed in Seattle in 1990. The members are Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), Jeff Ament (bass), Mike McCready (main guitar), Matt Cameron (drums) and Eddie Vedder (voice). Is considered one of the greatest exponents of the 90's grunge music.

I think I started liking Pearl Jam when I heard "Black" in an english class at school, we had to sing a song in pairs and two friends sang "Black", I really liked It so I started looking for more songs and information of the band and I became a fan of them. Well, as you can imagine, my favorite song of them is "Black", I don't really know why, actually It is a really depressing song, but it doesn't makes me sad, It just relaxes me.

I've never been in their concerts because of time and money, actually the only concert I've been to was one of Kudai (which is kind of embarrasing) when I was like 12 years old. But now I'm going to start saving money for the next time they come to Chile.

Summer Holidays

Hi!

Well. my summer holidays will be really short, I will only have a month and some days to "rest" until the classes start again. I would like to travel or do something fun, but I won't because I have to work to buy a new computer to use it in workshop and the career in general.

If I had the time, I'd like to go to Pichilemu, because It's been a long time since the last time I went there. I have a friend who has a cottage there, so It'd be great to spend a few days with my friends, visiting the city, playing and swimming in the beach and of course having a lot of parties. It would be amazing to learn surfing too!

I'd also like to go camping a few days in Las Peñas, swimming in the river and sleeping in a tent. I know many people don't like tents or they think they are uncomfortable, but I personally really like it, I think is mostly beacuse at night, when everything is quiet, you can hear the sound of the river and the animals walking around and It feels really relaxing for me.

Since I'm not a big fan of the warm climate in summer (actually the only thing I like about it is the fruit like watermelon or peaches and the fact that I have vacations on summer) I would like to go to the south of Chile and visit a lot of places like Valdivia, Chiloé, Villarica, Puerto Varas, etc. like a whole tour through the south, I think It would be really fun.

Postgraduate Studies

Hi!

I've always been interested in the environment and sustainability, so In the future, I want to be an architect that includes and care about the impact and the improvement of my creations in the world.
But, I think my knowledge in architecture won't be enough to make the buildings I want to, so I would like to take some courses in sustainable building and alternative energy sources.
I would like to take a lot of courses, If I had the money, in Chile and in many other countries, so I can have a lot of information and knowledge to create what I want to.

Of course I prefer having face to face classes, the courses I want to take are meant to be interactive and practical.
There are some particular courses I would really like to take in Chile, which are imparted by "Aldea Domo" and they teach you about bioconstruction, how to build domes and they even have a course about alternative medicine. This courses are more like a workshop camp, you stay in a tent in their eco-town which is in the mountains near San Fernando and you don't have to worry about the food because it's include in the price (which is a little expensive for me) and I's vegetarian.

I would also like to take some courses in languages like german, italian, japanese and many others.

My future job

Hi!

Today's blog is about my future job, so It supose I have to write about what I'm going to be doing in 10 or more years, The thing is, I don't know what I want to do in the future, 2 years ago I didn't really know what I wanted to study at college, somehow I ended up studying architecture and, fortunately, I like the career I chose. So for now, I guess I'm going to say I'll be an architect, but I'm sure that won't be the only thing I'll be doing in the future.

I like the idea of being my own boss and having more freedom than other people when you have to do your work and I would hate to work on an office the hole day, I guess that's why I like the idea of traveling a lot. but I've always liked traveling, visiting new places and having different experiences (even though I don't do it that often because of money and time) so I hope, in the future, I will be able to travel and live in different places all over the world working on architectural projects and things like that. And if i'm going to be traveling that much, I guess (or wish) I'll have a good salary.

Since I don't really know what I'd like to do in the future, for now, this is all I can say about this topic.

12 Monkeys

Hi!

Since I don´t have the money to go to many restaurants I can´t write about that, so this time I´m going to write about a really good movie that I watched recently.

The movie is "12 Monkeys", is a 1995 american thriller, science fiction and mistery film directed by Terry Guilliam and inspired by a short film from 1962 called "La Jetée", Starring by Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt, Madeleine Stowe and Christopher Plummer.

The film shows a post-apocalyptic future where people have to live underground because there's a deadly virus in the surface that almost killed all humanity in 1996. A group known as "The Army of the 12 Monkeys" is believed is responsible of the virus, so the "government" selected a prisioner called James Cole (Bruce Willis), to go to the past and discover what happened.

I think this movie is really interesting, I like It a lot because of its characters and the plot. Is one of those movies where you don´t know what's going to happen so you really have to pay attention and wait until the end of the movie to understand the story.
The personality of the characters is also really interesting, my favorite one was Jeffrey Goines, I think is one of Brad Pitt's best characters.

I really recommend this movie, so if you have time, you should definitely wacht it!

My best holidays?

I don't really have a best holiday, all the vacations I've had have been fun, but normal, nothing really interesting. But for this blog I guess I'm going to talk about the time I went to "Las Peñas".

Las Peñas is a place in the middle of the mountains near "Los Andes" and It's like one hour from San Fernando. It´s kind of like a camping area and it also has a river.
I've been there many times, but most of those times I was too young to remember. The last time I went there was in last summer with my family.
We went from San Fernando on car and we stayed in a camping area called "Camping Monteverde", which owner is a friend of my dad.

The first thing we did was to set the tent before the sun goes down, because there was no light but the natural light of the sun. Then we put on our swimsuits and we went to the river to swim and play for a while, we also ate next to the river.
At night, we made fire and we all sit around it, we talk, sing and laugh a lot. We also went to a place where you can play taca taca and pool, It was pretty fun.

We stayed there like 5 days, because we were kind of bored and we didn´t have enough food and money. But I enjoyed my vacations anyway.

A country I'd like to visit

Hi!

It is really difficult for me to choose just one country I'd like to visit, because I'd like to travel all over the world! But for this blog, I think I'm going to choose Japan.

I feel like is a really friki decision, but I've always wanted to visit Japan, because of its culture, landscapes and of course its animation. When I was a child, I used to spend a lot of time after school watching japanese animation on the tv. Currently, I don't do it that often, but I still like it, especially Hayao Miyazaki's movies.

I would like to go on April, because that's the season of the Sakura's trees flourish, I would make a picnic with my friends and we'd eat all together under the trees, I think It'd be a beautiful picture. After that, I'd travel all over the country, shopping, visiting museums and enjoying the new experiences.

I think It'd be interesting to make an architectural project in Japan, so If I had the chance, I would definitely like to try it. Also, I'd like to live there, but not forever, maybe a year or something like that.
Anyway, Japan is a beautiful country to visit and I really wish I can go there someday.
